Membership & Benefits
The Community Housing Council of South Australia Inc., (CHCSA) is the 'Peak Industry Body' for Housing Organisations. They include Commuity Housing Co-operatives, Community Housing Associations, Preferred Growth Providers and Not-For-Profit Housing Providers in South Australia.
Full Membership is also provided to another body, incorporated on a not-for-profit basis in a State or Territory of Australia or constituted under an Act of an Australian Parliament, which has as one of its objectives the provision of accommodation (which may be rental, or rental-to-own or owned jointly by its members) and which provides or intends to provide that accommodation wholly or partly within the State of South Australia. The CHCSA is a member-driven community
organisation in all aspects of its operations.

What benefits would you receive by renewing
your membership or joining as a member of the CHCSA?
Members of the CHCSA are entitled:
- To have a vote, and a say, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
as well as any Special General Meeting of the CHCSA, and to nominate
for representative positions (where vacant) on the Management
Committee, Policy Committee and the Co-operatives' Representative
Council. These are the highest decision making bodies for the
CHCSA, which you will be eligible to participate in
- Both Full and Associate members receive the CHCSA quarterly
newsletter which keeps you informed and up-to-date with relevant
and current developments in the community housing sector Australia
wide
- Participate in any CHCSA events including Sector Consultations, Workshops, Information Sessions, Special Policy Forums, Celebrations etc as a Member and be eligible for member subsidies
and incentives where offered and as supported by current CHCSA
Policy
Members will also be entitled to an extensive range of
services including:
- Access to the Weekly E-Bulletin which provides up to date and
relevant information on Social Housing Sector issues and upcoming
events
- Information, advice and support on all aspects of community
housing
- Opportunities to present sector views to all levels of government
both state and national
- Input into housing policy development and political lobbying
- Opportunities to network with and learn from other housing organisations
- Membership of and attendance at Management Committee, Policy
Committee, Co-operatives' Representative Council, Associations' Forum, and Regional Forums
- Policy research and development
- Representation on relevant Committees, Working Parties etc.,
both state and national
- Access for Housing Co-operatives and small volunteered Housing Associations to the Community Housing Customer Register
- Access to services and equipment at Member rates ie. photocopying,
book binding, meeting room facilities etc.
- Access to services provided under CHCSA 'umbrella' memberships
with Volunteering SA and Business SA
- Opportunities to undertake Volunteer Work with the CHCSA or
as Casual Trainers in the delivery of the CHCSA "ICH"
Courses and in accordance to relevant CHCSA Policies and Procedures
Some of the CHCSA recent and current activities include:
- Is the auspicing body for the setting up of Common Equity Housing South Australia (CEHSA),
- Management of the Registration of Interest (ROI) process for interested persons wanting to be housed within Community Housing,
- CHCSA Executive Officer, as Chairperson of the Community Housing Federation of Australia (CHFA),
- Development of a Business Planning Kit for Not-For-Profit Housing Providers,
- Development of Rebates and Concessions manuals as part of the Rebates and Concessions Project,
- Representation on State and National Boards, Committees, Sub-Committees,
Councils, Working Parties etc. ie Shelter SA, SACHA Finance Committee,
SACHA Policy & Property Committee, SACHA Change Management
Project Steering Committee, SACHA Allocations Committee, Housing
Council - Community Sector Ministerial Advisory Group, Community
Housing Federation of Australia (CHFA) etc.
- Co-hosted the South Australian Launch of the National Community
Housing Standards
- Administrators for the Concessions and Rebates Project
- CHCSA Submission to the South Australian State Housing Plan
- CHCSA Sector Consultations, Policy Forums and Member Questionnaires;
topics include the Change Management Project, Sector Representation
on the SACHA Board, Concessions and Rebates Workshop etc.
- Hosted the International Co-operatives' Day Celebration
- CHCSA Position Paper and Recommendations to SACHA on the Change
Management Project.
